Rangefinder-Photography

Public Group active 3 weeks, 2 days ago

Well, there is a huge range of rangefinder-cameras so far. They are an alcove today, but still new ones are produced. Most famous: the CV-Bessas, the Zeiss-Ikon ZM and of course, the Leicas.
This may be a group for all kinds of rangefinder-photography. So, not only for 24x36mm, but also for 6×6, 6×7, or whatever you like!

I am a little bit of a digital Neanderthal when it comes to scanners. I photograph in 35mm film, B&W and colour reversal and as yet I have not found a scanner that can match the quality of the results I get in my darkroom. I see many picture posted on here and on other photo forums where people have seemed attain the results they sort so Maybe someone could offer advise on this. Hence I am unable to upload images it the moment. My work is produced by Leica optics for taking and Rodenstock Rodigon for enlarging

Have you thought about scanning your final prints rather then your negatives/slides? That way you can achieve the results you want in the darkroom and then make a straight scan from the print without much digital manipulation to upload to the internet or possibly make further prints from.
For scanning prints I have got excellent results from an older epson expression scanner, and the current epson V series of scanner are generally rated quite highly. Good dedicated negative scanners are getting harder to get hold of, the Nikon Coolscan range was very good, and Minolta also made some very good scanners. The cost of dedicated film scanners gets a lot higher if you are wanting to scan medium format as well, and even higher for scanning 5×4.

As I said in the other post concerning scanners, take a look at the canonscan 9900f. As long as you have a machine to run the drivers, they don’t seem to work in a 64 bit enviroment, its a great little scanner! You can see some of the results I’ve gotten from it in my images here. :)
