Why do Fuji keep insisting on their commitment to film photography, and without warning discontinue almost half of their film products, and to add insult to injury relaunch their Use Film website ?

It’s all down to money for sure. Companies like Fuji have not got the the global position they have attained today by pandering to the whims of you and I. It’s a commercial thing don’t take it personally

I for one do not use any Fuji products, preferring mainly Ilford and Kodak, I tried Velvia 50 and found the colours far too intense

You need to try Velvia 100F instead.

Kenneth- I don’t use Fuji Professional films as a whim or a hobby but to make a living, and it’s also a commercial thing to me and my clients, and although I don’t expect Fuji to to produce products that are unprofitable I do expect manufacturers of professional products to give some sort of warning of the discontinuation of them to enable users to either stockpile and deep-freeze them or use another manufacturers products.

Availability? You’re joking. We have only one outlet which carries a small stock of 35mm b&w film, and 120 film is only available 500km away.

I can see why Film will disappear from use despite it’s many advantages – I bought a couple of rolls of Provia 100 35mm film a few days ago – cost £11 per roll at London Camera Centre. I certainly won’t be buying any more at that price. If my usual suppliers put their prices up to that level I will be going digital sooner rather than later, sadly!

That’s an incredible price. Surely there are other suppliers in your area. Even in far-off NZ, our prices are far below that.

kenneth, what on earth are you doing in a Fuji film forum if you don’t use Fuji film?

Another low-life digital troll, no doubt?

I’ve never had problems getting film. I usually get fuji here, or for Kodak, I often use AG Photography. The pricing is pretty reasonable either way.

As regards the choice of films, it makes sense that there are fewer. Better for them to slim down production than go out of business. Look at what happened to AGFA. To produce a master roll of film is a massive undertaking, and if they can’t sell it all, a big financial blow.
I thought it was funny to see all the bleating about the demise of Kodachrome. I bet most of them only shot with it because it was being discontinued. If they’d have been using it as they claimed, Kodak would have kept it going
I think that between them, the film companies cover all bases, though at the moment, it seems that Kodak is showing more commitment, producing newer and better film. We have the movie industry to thank, as they are the biggest users of film stock.

Provia 100F at 7dayshop.com for £5 35mm or £3 for 120 – and significantly cheaper if you buy ten.

On the topic of ‘film availability’, what is going on at 7dayshop? They are recommending we buy Kodak film instead of Ilford and tell us this is their last remaining stock. http://bit.ly/gIm1g9
7dayshop have been a lifeline to film users in the way that Jessops were in 1980′s: you can’t buy film at their prices anywhere and they don’t charge postage either.

I get my films, Ilford from either Ebay or Amazon
