Some dealers are a little 18% when it comes to honest dealing (3 posts)

It would seem that a certain London Dealer is a little over self opinionated. I purchased a Nikkor Lens from a certain london Dealer who shall not be named but as the tread title suggests they have been a little Zone V in thier dealings. Enough said. Anyway the lens was sold as mint- and came with a box and instructions. The purchase price did not include a lens hood, I was charged separately for this item but on reading the Nikon instructions it said that a lens hood was a standard item included in the price. When I challenged the said dealer about this he got quite up himself and became quite objectionable. I guess he had realised that I was up to his little ploy. I know it was only £20.00 but it is the principal here that is at issue not the price

It’s common practice with dealers who sell used equipment to split up cameras, lenses ,cases hoods, filters that they buy or part exchange and sell them as separate items to maximize their profits,, they are just trying to make a living.

I would agree that with some dealers there is a bit of petty larceny going on and that they can get very aggressive when caught out. There are only a couple that I really trust and have built up a relationship with them over the years, I prefer to buy from people I know where possible. Others where I have had a less than satisfactory experience I simply never user again. As ever it is best to do your research before you buy and negotiate up front from a position of knowledge rather than trying to fix things post purchase. My golden rule is that if I have any doubts what-so-ever either about the item or the dealer I simply don’t buy.
